Chevy’s Path to Complete Healing

Created by her sister Cheryl

Holy Expectation

Sunday's sermon by Pastor Lon touched me in many ways.  It's about expecting great things from God.
"Expect great things from God.  Attempt great things for God." -- William Carey
Of course my sister Chevy came to mind.  She is doing so well by the grace of God.  No, she isn't cured.  The 'big C' is still in her body.  But there's a BIGGER C that is in her, and that is CHRIST!  I was reminded once again on Sunday that when I pray for her, I should EXPECT to receive.  I should expect her to outlive me!  The truth of the matter is, each day of each one of our lives (not just Chevy's) is a precious gift!

Chevy will undergo her third PET-CT scan this month.  It is tentatively set for Sept. 22.  It would mark the sixth month after she's completed her chemotherapy, and the sixth month of being on an oral cancer drug.  It is also about a month shy of the first year anniversary of her diagnosis.  Please continue to pray for complete healing!

Thank you to all you faithful prayer warriors!

Cheryl

Testimony written in March 2009

This is Chevy's testimony, which she wrote last March.  It was for CCOWESPONDENCE, which is the official publication of CCOWE (Chinese Congress on World Evangelization).

Chevy now

My lovely sis!  Taken a month ago around her birthday.  Praise God she continues to do well on the drug Tarceva.  She tells me that her acne has cleared up some more.  Her latest blood tests have been good.  Let's continue to lift her up in prayer.

This passage spoke to me last Sunday at church.  VERY powerful!  I pray that Chevy (and all of us that love her) will not 'waver through unbelief' but will be strengthened in her faith because the Lord is fully capable to do as He has promised!  To him be all glory!

Romans 4:18-21 (New International Version)

18Against all hope, Abraham in hope believed and so became the father of many nations, just as it had been said to him, "So shall your offspring be."[a] 19Without weakening in his faith, he faced the fact that his body was as good as dead—since he was about a hundred years old—and that Sarah's womb was also dead. 20Yet he did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God, 21being fully persuaded that God had power to do what he had promised.

Rejoicing, thanking, petitioning

I hope this passage blesses you as much as it blesses me!  It is so timely for us, and I believe for everyone, for who doesn't have trials and heartaches?

4Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! 5Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. 6Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.  (Philippians 4:4-7)

Stable Disease

I praise God that my sister Chevy's PET results show stable disease.  There was no regression of the tumors, but there was no worsening either.  Some lesions are not active and some have 'low-grade' activity.  She is on an oral drug that helps prevent the progression of the cancer.

While this is not the complete healing that I was hoping for, I am thankful.  God may rid her completely of this disease in His time, but He may also choose not to.  And if He doesn't, He can still bless her with a long life on earth with us.  This is my prayer.  God's ways are His ways, and I may not always understand them, but I trust that He knows best and He has a purpose for everything.

Please continue to remember Chevy in your prayers.  She has been such an inspiration to me for her positive attitude and strong faith in the Lord.

In Him,
Cheryl

Hope

Dear Friends,

Chevy is doing well, praise God.  She is getting ready to do some tests again.  She will have another PET-CT scan on June 22.  She might also have another MRI of her brain, but I don't know when yet.  The latter is something that she has requested, because it is more sensitive for brain lesions.  So, there is some anxiety developing, so please pray for peace.

I don't know what God has in store for her here on earth, but I know that she has already blessed many lives, including mine.  My prayer is a selfish prayer that she will be with us for many more decades, to bring our family, and others, joy.  She has such a servants' heart, being the big sister, and I can only hope to emulate her.

Today I praise God because He is the God of hope.  She is Chevy's hope, and my hope.

Thank you so much for your continued prayers.  I will keep you posted when I have new information.

Cheryl

prayer life -- as posted by Chevy on Multiply

today's devotion found in Deserts in the Stream by L.B. Cowman

Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation.  Matthew 26:41

Dear friend, never go out into the danger of the world without praying first.  There is always a temptation to shorten your time in prayer.  After a difficult day of work, when you kneel at night to pray with tired eyes, do not use your drowsiness as an excuse to resign yourself to early rest.  Then when the morning breaks and you realized you have overslept, resist the temptation to skip your early devotion or to hurry through it.

Once again, you have not taken the time to "watch and pray".  Your alertness has been sacrificed, and I firmly believe there will be irreparable damage.  You have failed to pray, and you will suffer as a result.

Temptations are waiting to confront you, and you are not prepared to withstand them.  Within your soul you have a sense of guilt, and you seem to be lingering some distance from God.  It certainly is no coincidence that you tend to fall short of your responsibilities on those days when you have allowed your weariness to interfere with your prayer life.

When we give in to laziness, moments of prayer that are missed can never be redeemed.  We may learn from the experience, but we will miss the rich freshness and strength that would have been imparted during those moments. Frederick William Robertson

Jesus, the omnipotent son of God, felt it necessary to rise each morning before dawn tyo pour out His heart to  His Father in prayer.  Should we not feel even more compelled to pray to Him who is the giver of "every good and perfect gift" (james 1:17) and who has promised to provide whatever we need?

We do not know all that Jesus gained from His time in prayer, but we do know this -- a life without prayer is  a powerless life.  It may be a life filled with a great deal of activity and noise, but it will be far removed from Him who day and night prayed to God.
