Erbitux - from Chevy's Multiply blog

ErbituxJan 25, '09 2:17 AM
for chevy's friends & their friends and chevy's family & their family

Last Friday, Jan. 23, 2009, I was at St Luke's at exactly 8:00am, had my blood drawn to check my CBC, then waited for 2.5 hrs for the result.  I had my Erbitux at 1030am and was done by 1:00pm.  Thank God for the good blood counts.  I was half expecting that this wouldn't push through (as in the case the previous cycle) bec.  I wasn't feeling so good 2-3 days prior to the chemo.  I was still coughing, and my body temperature has been on the high side.

Praise the Lord for I know He's been watching over me since day 1, and He will see me through this.

Got Erbitux!

Chevy got her weekly dose of Erbitux as planned today.  Praise God!  This was around the same time during her last chemo cycle, when she missed one Erbitux dose because her white count was too low.  This time, the doctor felt that her count was high enough, and her infection mild enough, that she could go through with the infusion.  Thank you all for your prayers.  Let's continue to storm heaven's gates on Chevy's behalf, petitioning the Lord for all of his mercy to rest upon Chevy, that she may receive COMPLETE healing!

My flesh and my heart may fail,

but God is the strength of my heart
               and my portion forever.
                                         Psalm 73:26

Everyday Thanksgiving - from Chevy's Multiply blog

Everyday Thanksgiving Jan 20, '09 10:19 PM
for chevy's friends & their friends and chevy's family & their family
When my sister came home last november, she gave me a journal where she intends for me to write the things that I'm thankful for everyday.  the procrastinator that I am, I just started to write this morning.  Along side the thanksgiving, I've also written the things I pray for.  I guess like everyone else, my prayer items are longer than the thanksgiving items. It only proves how much we take forgranted God's blessings to us.  We always ask but fail to thank Him - we fail to see His goodness, His blessings around us - from the smallest to the grandest - the air that we breathe, our health, the food we eat, all the luxuries we are experiencing in life.

In his book  "Prayers & Promises (when facing a life-threatening illness)",  Ptr Ed Dobson,  who is afflicted with ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) or Lou Gehrig's disease,  prayed to God to teach him to be thankful in every circumstance - even in sickness.  He thank God specifically for each item in his closet, for every nook and cranny of his room. This took him a while to do, and that is just for the material gifts God gave him.  The list doesn't include family and friends, spiritual blessings, and all other blessings one can receive as a result of his relationship with Jesus Christ.

I hope to fill my journal as often as possible and eventually see my thanksgiving items longer than the prayer items.  I encourage everyone to do the same.  Like what Ptr. Ed Dobson said "when you sit down to make  a list of all your blessings and thank God for them, you will be overwhelmed at His goodness, greatness and kindness".

Count your blessings, name them one by one, count your blessings, see what God hath done, count your blessings, name them one by one, count your many blessings see what God hath done. -  from the song  Count Your Blessings

"Be joyful always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus".  1 Thessaloanians 5:16-18

Achie, I got that wonderful idea from Betsy. Isn't she great?! I just had an impromptu lunch with her, Cathy, and Christina (who is also one of your fervent prayer warriors), all from CBS, after our class yesterday. These are just a few of the many women that pray for you everyday. Their hearts are BIG, and I am learning so much from them. Thanks for sharing your heart. It is really wonderful that we have the internet nowadays, where we can speak more freely whereas we otherwise probably wouldn't be as vocal. God is certainly using you in mighty ways, Achie, so keep sharing! I love you. I miss you. Even though I'm away again, I know that Mama is taking good care of you and that our good Lord watches over you.

Fever

Hi Everyone,

Chevy has had a fever for almost two days now.  Her WBC is most definitely low and she was not on prophylactic antibiotics.  She has been coughing more.  She called her doctor who immediately prescribed antibiotics.  Please pray that she will be healed immediately of this infection.  I still praise God that she feels well otherwise.  I don't know if her Erbitux infusion is pushing through tomorrow in light of this.  Please continue to pray for wisdom for her oncologist.

Blessings,
Cheryl

Chevy's Sustainer

Chevy's doing great!  Back to her shopping mood! =D  She received her weekly dose of Erbitux today.  Her neutrophil count is around 1200.  Her doctor didn't want to put her on prophylactic antibiotics this time.  Her neutrophils are expected to drop further for another week.  Please pray that the Lord will continue to sustain her.  Please pray that she will be free from any infection.  The Lord is good and merciful.  We give Him all praise!

Psalm 41:3 The LORD will sustain him on his sickbed and restore him from his bed of illness.
Psalm 51:12 Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me.
Psalm 54:4 Surely God is my help; the Lord is the one who sustains me.
Psalm 55:22
Cast your cares on the LORD and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous fall.

The Lord's hand

Hi Everyone.  Chevy's doing much better! Appetite's improved.  Nausea's gone.  Early this morning, she took a 40-minute walk alongside Manila Bay with my Mom and Aunt Emily.  Praise God, no itching!  :-)  She's still a bit more easily tired than usual, but that should get better.  On Friday, she gets a CBC check and if her white count is good, she will get another dose of Erbitux.  BTW, she's gotten more rashes and her cough is significantly improved, so the Erbitux is really working.  Or should I say, the LORD is working!  Praise GOD!  :-)  Thank you all for your prayers.  ~Cheryl

S/p four cycles of chemo

A quick update on Chevy.  She has had some nausea in the last 3 days.  Poor appetite.  Today has been a bit better.  Some numbness of extremities.  Her cough is improved, praise God!  Her rash is spreading, which is expected, but manageable.  Please continue to pray for her, for minimal side effects.  She is scheduled for Erbitux alone this Friday.  Please pray that her neutrophil count will be high enough to get the drug.  This drug has done wonders for her, and we pray that she won't miss any more treatments.  I praise the Lord for Chevy's faith, which is a great comfort to us all.  Please pray for increased intimacy with our Lord.  Thank you.  ~Cheryl

Wavering in faith - from Chevy's multiply blog

Wavering in Faith Jan 12, '09 12:36 AM
for chevy's friends & their friends and chevy's family & their family
Last Monday, January 5, we went to see an oncologist for 2nd opinion.  Naturally we got a different response, like in the meds to be used.  Different folks, different strokes.  Upon hearing what the doctor said, we had doubts if we're using the right chemo drug.  The particular drug in question is a very expensive one.   So I told myself, why continue with the drug and waste money if it's not gonna work?

We thought of seeing my doctor to talk to her about it, but then again, what do we tell her?  How do we tell her that we sought for 2nd opinion and this is what the other doctor had to say?  It would really show how much we trust her huh?

The following day, January 6, my sister got an email from her oncology friend and confirmed that we are using the right drug by explaining the benefit/action of the drug.  The same day, I read in Harold Sala's "Finding Refuge and Strength" devotional that we shouldn't close our doors on God.  That we shouldn't be impatient, and should wait on the Lord to rescue us.

"I am expecting the Lord to rescue me again, so that once again I will see His goodness to me here in the land of the living.  Don't be impatient.  Wait for the Lord, and He will come and save you!  Be brave, stouthearted, and courageous.  Yes, wait and He will help you."  Psalm 27:13-14

Dont believe your doubts or doubt your beliefs.  God knows and understands.  He will heal your broken heart.  Be patient.

Moral of the story :  Be patient, trust God, do not waver in faith, for help will come in His time.

Please continue to pray for me.  As I write, the side effects of last Friday's chemo is kicking in ... can't eat, feeling a bit nauseous.

Prev: 3rd chemo

I praise the Lord for your example in faith, achi. You're right, God's timing is ALWAYS perfect. He has His reasons for making us wait upon Him. This was the verse i was reflecting on on my morning devotion: "I waited patiently for the Lord; He turned to me and heard my cry." Psalm40:1

Fourth chemo cycle

God is awesome!  Chevy's white count was terrific today, even higher than it was prior to her third chemo.  Chevy had to get up at 2 a.m. to take some steroids (she does this each chemo day) and had a hard time falling asleep again.  We got to the hospital at 8 a.m.  She was receiving her pre-meds by 9:15.  She slept through most of it, because of lack of sleep last night, as well as the Benadryl.  We were done by 5:30 p.m.  Chevy tolerated the meds, praise God!  No allergic reaction this time. :-)  Her doctor thinks her lingering (waxing and waning) cough might be allergy-related.  She confirmed my suspicion that Chevy's intense itching is neuropathy-related.

Achie is such an inspiration to me because of her courage and faith in our Lord.  Pastor Tim said yesteday that it is unusual for somebody stricken with Achie's disease to be filled with such peace.  Praise God for answered prayer!

This pic was taken today, which is the last time I'll be accompanying Achie to her chemo.  I leave for the States tonight.

Thank you for your continued prayers.  Four down, two to go!

Cheryl
